Questions for Reflection

  • Why do you think it necessary to be transformed by God’s grace in order to live up to Jesus’ words rather than merely be inspired to do so?
  • Give examples from Jesus’ own life which illustrate how he personally enacted his interpretation of the law of retaliation and the law of love.
  • What difference does it make to translate Matthew 5:48 with the words, “Be perfect … like God”  verses the words, “Be complete in showing love to everyone … the way God is”?
