    David Irvine

    Choral Music Director

David brings extensive experience in church music and worship leadership as well as professional conducting of vocal groups outside the church setting. He has a bachelor’s degree in choral conducting from Chapman University and a masters’ degree in choral conducting from the University of Oregon. For twentyfive years he has been Director of Worship Ministries at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Sonoma, CA. With St. Andrew Presbyterian in a period of pastoral transition, the timing was right for David to make his own transition as well. His new role with us utilizes skills he enjoys the most, i.e. conducting vocal and handbell choirs.

Outside of church, David serves as Artistic Director/Conductor for the Sonoma Valley Chorale, which he has been leading since 2007 and was the associate conductor four years prior. John Pavik serves as the Associate Conductor for this choir. David also serves as Associate Conductor for the Consort Chorale of Marin County, which he has done since 1996. Since 2004, David has been an annual faculty member of the Tuning @ Tahoe Music Conference which trains musicians of Presbyterian Churches at Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center, Nevada.

Joining our choral program along with David is his wife Kris. Perhaps now is the time for you to also join our choral program. If you have ever wanted to sing in the choir or play handbells, I encourage you talk it over with David. Those who have served under his leadership say he is …an outstanding teacher—insightful, perceptive, and patient. He is great at figuring out what a given group can do and helps make it happen…. He is a kind, strong leader who is collaborative and leads by inspiration.

We are grateful for God’s leading and timing to bring David to our church and to grow our music program by his leadership.
