I am a local girl. Born and raised in Sebastopol. I grew up in the Methodist church and attended Analy high school. After graduation, I headed off to the University of the Pacific to study Music Therapy. It was here that my baby faith in Jesus grew with the fellowship of Christian friends and involvement in Campus Crusade for Christ. A week after my college graduation, I married my high school sweetheart, Don, and we moved to Santa Barbara so he could complete his degree in Psychology. Within a few months of attending a small group for young marrieds at a large Baptist church, we joined the youth pastor and a few other couples in starting a church plant. We called ourselves Santa Barbara Community Church. Experiencing church with this small group of believers deepened my faith.
Don and I returned to Sonoma County after he completed his Master’s degree to raiser our family. We have two wonderful kids, Amy and Daniel. We have been active in a few churches in the 34 years we have lived in Santa Rosa, but the most life-changing for me was our time at New Vintage church. It was in this setting that I first told a Bible story to a large group of children. I discovered that God had graciously given me the gift of teaching kids. I was hired to coordinate the ministry for elementary children and spent five wonderful years striving to make Sundays the highpoint of a child’s week and equipping parents to continue the conversation during the days in between.
Don and I started attending First Presbyterian church in 2014, and I joined the Children’s Ministry team in 2015. Most Sundays you will find me upstairs telling the Bible story or leading a small group When I am not at church, I am teaching my 19 piano students, visiting my grand baby, Linnea, or walking my dachshund, Molly.
See you upstairs, Darcy
