I’m someone who takes God seriously, but myself, not so serious.
I am a native of Springfield, Missouri, and met my wife Catie in Fresno, California during a seminary internship. We’ve been married 36 years and have two children, Mark and Carrie. We’ve resided in Santa Rosa 19 years. Previous places we’ve called home include the Monterey Peninsula (8 years); Fresno (4 years); and Manila, Philippines (2 years). Besides working as a pastor, I have been a department manager and management trainer for a financial institution and a seminary professor.
I was raised in the Assemblies of God church, but became a Presbyterian after seminary. I am a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity (1981) and ordained in the PCUSA in 1988. I’ve traveled and participated in short-term mission and study trips to Belize, Mexico, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, China, India, Cameroon, Kenya, Jordan, and Israel.
Currently I devote weekly volunteer hours of community service as a Spiritual Advisor with residents of Los Guilicos Juvenile Hall. In the past I have served on boards related to a camp and conference center; doctoral scholarships; and community development.
Favorite Things: books, as in avid collector of modern fiction and children’s books; art, backpacking; sporting events; strong coffee, vanilla bean ice cream, giving gifts, and humor.
